Could Positron Emission Mammography (PEM) replace Breast MRI?

A recent NIH study has found PEM to have greater specificity than Breast MRI in detecting cancerous and benign lesions of the breast, and with a 26% higher Positive Predictive Value than Breast MRI, PEM could result in a reduction in unnecessary breast biopsies. This results in reduced patient trauma as well as lower costs associated with breast cancer detection and staging. Continue reading
